In an ever increasingly digital age where platforms not only converge but also where citizens are being swamped by international content the role and importance of local content could not be greater. While the digital world offers almost limitless options for the amount of content there is a need to ensure that we meet the needs of citizens. This means ensuring that people see themselves, their stories, their languages, their realities presented and represented. It means we have an even greater responsibility to our children to ensure that their needs as South Africans and Africans are not marginalised and added as afterthoughts.
