MTN South Africa has announced the start of its “Help Children Be Children” campaign in partnership with Media Monitoring Africa to promote online child safety. Media Monitoring Africa promotes digital literacy through its Web Ranger Programme to train young people in critical skills and knowledge regarding online safety, says Phakamile Khumalo, its public and media skills development manager. MTN has also partnered with Holy Rosary School, which has run programmes to address behavioural problems linked to heavy use of smartphones by pupils. The campaign also emphasises the role of guardians, teachers and law enforcement authorities in shaping safe online experience.
