JUST weeks after taking office, Communications Minister Roy Padayachie has turned the broadcasting world upside down, withdrawing the controversial Public Service Broadcasting Bill and dumping a widely criticised 1% extra tax to fund the SABC.
Both proposals were lambasted at public hearings last week.
“It was clear to me from the hearings that we needed to start the process anew to ensure it’s a just, consultative framework of what a public broadcaster should be about,” he said last night.
