Service Delivery: An Election Issue?

What questions should media ask potential candidates in the run up to the local government elections that will hold them accountable on the delivery of basic needs as enshrined in South Africa’s Constitution including:

  • Water supply
  • Sewage collection and disposal

  • Refuse removal

  • Electricity and gas supply

  • Municipal health services

  • Municipal roads and storm water drainage

  • Street lighting

  • Municipal parks and recreation

    • Our Piercing the Promises: Election Accountability Pack will assist the media in this regard. The pack provides a set of questions on pertinent questions electoral candidates should answer to, and which are largely reflective of South African communities and their needs.
