On 17 May 2010 The Times published a front page story, “Another life wasted” (17/05/10, p.1) about two girls who were knocked down while walking home from school. One of the girls died while the other was in an Intensive Care Unit. The Times receives a MAD for two reasons. First because they named the girl who survived the accident and secondly because they gave details of where she was in hospital.

This article exposed common locations of human trafficking in South Africa and how children will be affected by this crime. It also explained human trafficking and its implications to the reader.

Daily Sun’s articles “10 thugs hijack bus!” (03/05/2010, p. 4) and “A prayer to God, a song for Jesus, then murder by hammer!” (07/05/2010, p. 1, 2) are ones to get mad about as they identified child witnesses.
- Sowetan and The Star fail to protect the identity of a child victim

Two stories published in the Sowetan “Bullies douse boy (12) with benzine, set him on fire” (28/04/2010, p. 2) and The Star “Teens accused of setting 12-year-old alight” (30/04/2010, p. 2),about a 12-year-old who was set on fire by two 15-year-old bullies are ones to be mad of. In both articles the victim was identified.
- The Star protects the identity of a child caught in a maintenance dispute

An article by The Star, “High Court rules in favour of adopted child” (28/04/2010, p. 9), was selected as a MAD OAT Glad for rare reporting that protected the identity of a child caught in the middle of a maintenance battle.
- City Press features female prisoners’ children

“Liberating babies from jail”, City Press (25/04/2010, p. 27) is one to be glad about. This article, written by Chris Makhaye took a positive angle on children who live with their mothers in prison and how they should be liberated, as the headline suggests.
- Sunday Times raises awareness on human trafficking

A news feature published in Sunday Times, “Human trafficking red alert,” (28/03/2010, p.5) provided tips on parents they can protect their children from human trafficking, especially during the World Cup period, when our country will host a lot of international visitors. The feature was consequently selected as a MAD Oat Glad.
- City Press scores big by accessing children.

An article by City Press, “Kicking around is a way to escape poverty,” (28/03/2010, p.40) was selected as Glad of the week for accessing girl children and portraying them in a positive light that promoted children, specifically girls, in sports.

An article published in the Sunday World, “No papgeld for [_]’s love-child,” (07/03/2010, p.3) about a celebrity father who allegedly failed to pay maintenance on a regular basis to support his son, was selected as the MAD OAT Mad of the week due to the disregard it displayed for the child’s privacy and dignity
