Hearings - now wait and see

Hearings on the proposed new Public Service Broadcasting Bill took place this week in Johannesburg this week. Media organisations such as SOS: Support Public Broadcasting, the South African chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa-SA) and Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) all called for a full policy review of the Bill in terms of public broadcaster SABC and community media.

According to IPS Africa, the United Nations estimates 95% of aggressive behaviour, harassment, abusive language and denigrating images in online spaces are aimed at women and come from partners or former male partners. Other surveys show that the victims of cyber-stalking are predominantly female.
