This project will explore this question and hopes to fill in the gaps. We aim to increase the amount and improve the quality of media reporting on human trafficking and child protection.

Child Safety Measures during the World Cup – how did we do?
“There was no money set aside (by government) for the protection of children.”

With children on extended holidays for the duration of the World Cup, there were concerns that the sporting event brought with it new threats and risks in terms of children’s safety. Children from Saxonwold and Naturena Primary Schools in Johannesburg wanted to find out what was done to keep children safe during the World Cup, how effective they had been, and what role the media had played!

Definition:
Human Trafficking is a form of modern slavery. A person has been trafficked if he or she has been moved within a country or to another country, as a result of force, fraud, or manipulation and is exploited or made to work as a slave. A slave is forced to work or is exploited under threat of violence for no pay, beyond subsistence (the least possible amount of food or money that a person needs to survive).This is the MMA prescribed definition drawn up referencing the UN and Benjamin E.
